I was brought up in a family that valued creativity and artistic ability. Art supplies, lessons and encouragement were always available. I think therefore I have always considered myself to be an artist. Life drawing ,oil painting, ceramics and printmaking were all part of my early experience. I attended the High School of Commerce, Commercial Art Course, graduating in 1970. Though it was a wonderful way to spend my high school years (and the sixties) it did not entirely prepare me for the careers I would pursue later. I have however enjoyed assuming the role of staff artist wherever I've worked. For many years I was in the field of social services, working with children of all ages. My artistic training helped me a great deal in terms of what I could offer the youth I worked with. Being able to do lettering and create posters and pamphlets was also an asset to many of the programs I was part of.
In the early nineties I decided that I wanted to be more directly involved with the the art community. In 1992 I left social work and took a job at Germotte Studio, as a custom picture framer. This proved to be a significant turning point for me.
In 1997 I left the framing business and began volunteering at my children's school, once again becoming the resident artist. During this time I also took several drawing and paiting courses.
I will always be a student of art, taking courses when ever I can. In recent years I have taken a number of drawing and painting courses at Ottawa School of Art, Algonquin College and the Orleans Visual Arts Centre. I regularly participate in shows organized by the Ottawa Art Association and the Arteast Organization.
Oil is my medium of choice these day though many of my earlier paintings are in acrylic. I would describe my work as stylized realism. Some things I do tend to boarder on illustration in terms of style and content. For the most part I paint my surroundings. Usually my message is peaceful and my intention is to evoke good feelings for the viewer. I love to draw and paint and probably always will.
